When a 4-year-old girl goes missing in Dorchester, one of Boston’s toughest hoods, private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro (Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan) reluctantly agree to take the case. But the investigation proves tougher, riskier and more complex than they could have imagined. Ben Affleck’s directorial debut, adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel, also stars Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman and Amy Ryan (in her first Oscar-nominated role).
A lot of the early press I read about this movie was because it was Ben Affleck’s first gig as a director. The reviews I had read were mostly positive and I went in with medium expectations – my expectations were exceeded.
We had a few rewind moments and turned on subtitles (gotta love that Boston accent), but the story flowed well. My take away from the movie was we have two choices – doing the emotionally right thing vs the morally/legally right thing. I would have done the emotionally right thing.
